straining at the seams

Summary

or, how denji views his little sister in relation to the woman he had known.

straining at the seams

Most days, Nayuta does not remind Denji of her.

If he squints, his sister’s eyes un-swirl to solid pupils. If he forgets how he had once prostrated in front of her as a dog desperate for a scrap of affection of treat, Denji can view Nayuta’s proclivity towards dogs as pure innocence. If he distracts himself when birthday parties are shown on television, he can forget the ease with which she had killed. If he were to forget her altogether, Nayuta seems normal.

Those are only most days though, and more often now, he can see Makima’s essence seep through.
